Tom Bowles, CEO of Alltek, was asked to join the board of directors for First Presbyterian Homes by a current board member and client of Alltek. Seeing an amazing opportunity to give back to the community, Tom accepted. As the baby boomer generation ages, the need for effective long-term care facilities has become a necessity. First Presbyterian Homes provides the type of long-term care boomers are glad to choose for themselves.
Currently, Tom is part of two different committees with First Presbyterian Homes. As a result, he has been learning a lot about the effort required to create and maintain this type of facility. So much goes into caring for the geriatric population, especially since not every resident has the same needs. The organization Tom is involved with offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Nursing Home services. Seeing what goes into each of these facilities has been interesting, and it’s made Tom grateful he’s been given the opportunity to help.
Tom is still relatively new to First Presbyterian Homes. The more he learns about what they do, the more he’s able to contribute to their efforts. Based on what he’s seen so far, Tom has high hopes for the future of the organization. The campus itself is beautiful, located right on the lake, and the demand for a larger facility is high. There is a real need to expand the services they offer. They’ve already taken steps towards that, opening the Porter McGrath Health Center, an award winning short-term rehabilitation service for both residents and the community as a whole.
Long term, Tom hopes to take a proactive approach to his involvement with First Presbyterian Homes. For now, he is looking forward to meeting with other board members, getting up to speed on the functions of each facility as quickly as he can, and becoming an active part of the long term care planning conversation. Having spent most of his life here in Lakeland, building a business and raising a family, Tom is excited to have this opportunity to give back to a community that has given so much to him over the years.
